it begins with a gentle rocking in the night - a hush, hush that soothes fitful children and smoothes brows that furrow. but the rumble grows and grows until it is a shrieking roar.

and then the screaming starts.

constables dash to and fro, herding dazed and confused herds of prey and their shepherds to ( what they hope is ) safety; they call to laggers and those who try to sneak a peek of what is happening. they close rank around the royal chambers as if they can save the royals from this. whatever this is.

as the twin moons drift lazy across the dark sky and the citizens of all three courts ( and those who are not of any ) press close with whispered concerns and prayers, the stars begin to blink out. first it's slow but it spreads like an infection until the little dots of lights are ripped into darkness. gasps and cries of horror spread through the group but it lasts only the span of a heartbeat before the lights start twinkling once more.

the council frowns, bumping shoulders and head together as they rush to try to come up with a solution. as if they could touch the heavens, proud fools.

the darkness takes the moons, then - and the rumbling stills as the night goes black.

and the wolves wait, breaths held, for the moons to return.

but they do not.

time passes at first in heartbeats and then in minutes and then, hours. panic has spread and been subdued and some find their restless dreams once more - and still, the moons remain hidden.

it lasts a full night and day. just as madness threatens to descend upon the trio of courts ( too close, everyone calls. we're too close! as if getting further will save you from the wrath of the gods. ), everything goes frightfully stills. the wind stops and the creatures quiet and there is not even the distant call of the sea.

it's only a moment in time but to most it will feel like eons.

but the darkness speeds away, quick than it came, leaving behind twin moons - unharmed. unchanged.

relief is palpable. until the first wolf tries to use their thauma and they end up scalding their nearby companion with a wicked wildfire. it is blamed on sleeplessness but the next day a constable knocks another from atop the cordillera to their death.

thauma is no longer predictable.

ooc notes

welcome to chapter one that is being released with the beta opening of yros!

Things to note:
  • thauma is unpredictable. you may use it, but it will ( rarely ) act as it should.
  • some characters will lose their thauma entirely.
  • some characters go into a coma-like sleep, showing signs similar to the flu.
  • it has been a full day since the eclipse ended and we start in the morning after the eclipse when thauma is falling apart.
  • feel free to utilize NPCs! write your characters' reactions to the eclipse or start during the morning after.
  • this has no hard end date - it will end when we're ready to fully open.
